The 8 Stages Of A Meltdown

BONUS:
Meltdown Lifecycle Cheat Sheet

The 8 Stages Of A Meltdown takes you through the cyclic nature of a Meltdown based on one of my own meltdowns. In this eBook, I take you through what I call the 8 Stages because a meltdown is cyclic in nature.  This led me to research why they happen, whether they are predictable, and all the factors that can lead to a meltdown. Walk with me on the roadmap to Breaking through the Meltdown Maze.

The heart and lungs are your biggest helpers to intervene in a meltdown. Learn where to use to avoid or avert a meltdown if possible.

and more...

Hi, I’m Adrienne Furness and I help parents, caregivers, teachers, educators and related professionals understanding of the biodynamics of a meltdown from research and evidence-based interventions.

The Breakthrough the Meltdown Maze and it’s pre-decessor mini-courses are designed to provide knowledge about those who are neuro-diverse, particularly autistic, in mind. Armed with this knowledge, that parents, teachers and others will be able to see what stage their person is at through the meltdown cycle to avert or avoid a full-blown meltdown, or even better be able to predict and quell it’s rise.

With knowledge, tools, and coaching enabling an environment which is not only good for the home, but good for the learning environment. The predicate is that in order to learn, it is advantageous for the learner to be emotionally regulated.

Not just classroom ready but learning ready.

So, let’s get started!

How did I get interested in Meltdowns?

Because I wanted to master my own. I realized they were impacting my relationships in friend circles and at work.

I’d done a lot of self-development, I mean a lot – years and years.

I noticed a cycle and then a cycle within the meltdown.

What’s different about mine as an adult versus a child?

1. The size and age of the body

2. The Life experience and interventions already adopted

I pursued my own understanding of Meltdowns through research, observation of myself and others and other expert research.

When you experience your first and many meltdowns, you are often left feeling helpless and powerless to do anything about it except watch and stay safe.

You are left wondering,

1.“What on earth happened?”

2. What did I do?”

3.“What is going on for them?”

It can be frightening – not just for yourself, but the person experiencing the meltdown, and anyone and anything in close proximity.

I want to show you exactly what I’ve seen, what I’ve learned and help you on your roadmap to Breaking through the Meltdown Maze.

In this first step in the roadmap, I take you through a meltdown of my own and share what it was like from the inside.

Put Knowledge to Work!
See how Adrienne has shared her knowledge with Teachers and others she comes across to help them with their person's meltdowns...

"My most recent was a nurse when I had a hospital stay and what I said made total sense to her and she was going home to implement and research my suggestions."

Building Bridges in Special Education:
Adrienne's Expertise at the SEPLA Conference 2019

Informed by extensive research and the perspectives of individuals on the spectrum as they found their voice, significant changes have occurred over the years.

During her presentations, Adrienne has explored critical topics such as the Heart/Brain Connection and Polyvagal Theory. Her own research project has aimed to deepen the understanding of the biodynamics experienced by individuals on the spectrum leading up to a meltdown, including the place of sleep. She offers understanding of how effective breathing techniques, when applied at the right moment, can potentially avert a meltdown.

Her key research topic focused on:

"What is the correlation between resting heart rate and the frequency of meltdowns in children with autism?"
